"time off" implies "relaxing"

hey, guess what?  in the past two months i quit my old job and got a new one, and in the process got very behind on updating the site.  that's not like me, and i'd like to apologize.  now that i'm all settled, though, and not worried about paying the rent i've got a lot of new ideas and some new things to show you.

these are the sleepy tears.  i made a few shirts with this design, based on a small stuffed mini i made.

here's the detail of the little guys, with one yawning.

these are the small stuffed pins that started it all.  on the left is the yellow guy my friend dana made me (named squish) and on the right is the first sleepy tear i made.  they're both made out of felted bits of old sweaters, and have a pin on the back so you can wear them on a sweatshirt, bag, ect.  dana's is much nicer on the back than mine is, though.  i got a bit rushed and wanted it done now, so that tear only has a safety pin sewn on the backside.   after i made the first shirt with sleepy tears on them, i made this shirt, which in hindsight reminds me of squish.

he's a sort of pensive little man, but sweet.  both are embroidered on american apparel kid's shirts, size 4 (which fits children from 35 to 41pounds).  both can be found in the pinprick baby gallery!

p.s.  i added a notify list as well as easy to use paypal buttons.  hopefully that will make the site much more easy to use and more fun.  let me know if you encounter any troubles with either, okay? 

more news about 20 Twenty

i went by 20 Twenty the other day, and if it's at all possible it's even cuter now than it was when i first saw it.  it's full of the prettiest things, and i'm not just saying that because they carry my stuff.  then i saw these adorable fliers, and had to show it to you.

last night mom and i stopped by the store in ballard that will be carrying some pinprick stuff, 20 Twenty. 

it's at 5009 20th Ave NW in ballard, in between leary ave and ballard road.  it's close to the tractor.

joel doesn't just carry a huge variety of vintage clothing for every member of your family (which he does) but he also has accessories, jewlery, toys, and items made by local artists.

see the art on the wall?  that's for sale!  and look at all the clothes.

there's a variety of handmade jewelry (made by locals!) some of it utilizing vintage materials, all of it adorable.  it made me sort of sad to have elephant ears, because it was all so cute but i can't wear posts anymore. 

and lastly, some of my stuff in the store.  in a store!

you will notice that a whole lot of stuff is missing from the baby items for sale album, but don't worry!  i'm still available for custom orders, and i'll be working hard to get my stock back up.

vacation!

2004 was a great year for pinprick!  i had a great time working on new stuff, and i'd like to thank everyone who supported me.  i'm the luckiest girl on earth getting to create things i love and having other people enjoy them too.   

that being said, i'm going to take a little time off in january.  i'll be regrouping, creating more stock, thinking up new stuff, and finishing a few personal projects.  you're more than welcome to email me if you have something you'd like me to work on when i come back, but those first few weeks i'll be lounging around the apartment.  it's not that i won't be embroidering anything, i just won't have any deadlines.   

i'm also retiring a few designs!  say good-bye to the june and johnny cash set, as well as anything that starts with the phrase "stupid dirty."  i'm also not making anything "stinky" on it for babies.  those were strictly 2004 designs, and i've got lots more up my sleeve for 2005.

work is fun

i'm making hankies for someone for christmas.  i can't tell you who, because what if you're him?  on the back is a very spiffy monogram i made for the set, which i can't show you because if they're your initials, then the jig is up.

a sneak peek for melina!  the phrase looks a bit crooked, but only because it's lying over the couch, on the hump.  so it's bent in the middle, and i can indeed embroider in a straight line.

i got a whole bunch of towels stamped and ready to work on as well, which is quite possibly my least favorite part of embroidery.  the set up is just a bit tedious (i'm not wild about all the ironing either, but it bothers me less than the stamping), but once i start working i forget all about it.  i've found that if i prep a whole bunch of stuff first, working is so much more fun. 

sneaky jackass

i like to give my customers a sneak preview of what's to come if they've placed a custom order.  this is the latest jackass towel i've finished.  i did the star differently than i usually do, this time in chain stitch rather than stem.  that's why it's all loopy.

another stupid dirty towel, this time in pink.  you know how much i love pink!

a sneak preview for ms. jane!  she's getting a set of stupid dirty towels in red.  this is one that's done, but not washed or ironed.  after the towels are embroidered, they need to be washed to get rid of the traces of transfer pencil, and ironed out and tidied up.  the tiny pink "r" is for me, so i can keep sets matched up while i work on them.  i hope ms. jane likes them.   

start of a new series

here's the start of a new series i'm working on, tenatively titled "stupid dirty." what can i say? i use up all my creativity making the stuff, i don't have any left for naming stuff. after this will come "stupid dirty dishes," and then "stupid dirty oven." and hopefully more. adding the words "stupid" and "dirty" to anything makes it funnier. try it tonight.
